About Us

I’ve been physically active my whole life, first as a ballet dancer, then in my mid twenties as a competitive body builder (natural, no steroids).  I had a kidney removed at 15 which ended my dance career.  I started my business when I was 24 (26 years ago) as a certified personal trainer.  After 6 months I had a car accident which resulted in cervical and lumbar injuries.  It took a year to recover.  During that time, I became aware of the need to help others who were dealing with chronic pain from injuries/post surgery. I developed my own exercise program,  learning to adapt my program to my changing needs which is important as I age.

At 36, I had my son David and we moved to Tennessee where his dad was in medical school.  At that time, I worked in a hospital based wellness center with cardiovascular, stroke and post accident and surgical patients to improve function and reduce pain. Today, medical professionals refer their patients to me for post PT and other related fitness services.

When I was 40, I spent several years working with a Stott certified teacher trainer to learn the Stott pilates method.  I’ve completed all of the training which includes the mat, reformer, Cadillac, chair and barrel training programs.  I’ve done additional training on pilates principles using the stability ball, bands, pilates circles and other hand held apparatus.

I started Pilates Works, Inc. 10 years ago when my son went to kindergarten and I needed to be available afterschool.  The studio has grown over the years to be a fully equipped pilates and personal training studio with a special emphasis on teaching people what they need to know to maintain their health and wellbeing over their lifetime.
